In relation to multiple instances of live rodents being thrown into Birmingham McDonald’s restaurants, a 32-year-old man named Billal Hussain has been placed under arrest.
These incidents, which seem to be connected to the Gaza conflict, happened on Monday and Tuesday. In a video shared on social media on Monday, patrons of a McDonald’s restaurant were seen scuttling around their feet, startled, by mice dyed in the colours of the Palestinian flag. Following the donation of meals to Israeli soldiers and security personnel by an Israeli restaurant, pro-Palestinian activists have called for protests against McDonald’s. West Midlands Police urged anyone with information about Hussain’s whereabouts to come forward, stating that the incidents were being handled as public nuisances.
Following “inaccurate reports regarding our position in response to the Middle East,” McDonald’s Corporation expresses “dismay.” At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the rodents were let go from the McDonald’s locations on Regina Drive in Perry Barr and off Watson Road in Nechells. Although it is possible that the third incident in Coventry Road, Small Heath, is unrelated, it is still being looked into. The force responded by stepping up patrols throughout the area and calling the acts “appalling” and unacceptable. For a thorough cleaning and inspection by pest control partners, McDonald’s restaurants have been closed. Staff members are coordinating with law enforcement to guarantee the safety of patrons.
