Samreen Aftab, a fifteen-year-old Christian schoolgirl who was allegedly abducted and converted to Islam in Jaranwala, has faced obstacles in her path because of a spurious First Information Report (FIR) against her father, Aftab Joseph.
With two daughters and two sons, Samreen is the second oldest member of the family that operates the “Aftab Public School” in Sheronala, Jaranwala. The complaint, identified as 1490/23, names Aftab Joseph as the complainant and includes a number of Joseph’s family members. The complainants named in the FIR are also Samreen Aftab, Joseph’s daughter, who went by Kaneez Fatima when she converted to Islam, and her purported husband, Amir.
The decision made by the village council in the area affected the delay in addressing the kidnapping, according to a high court advocate for Aftab Joseph and his family. The situation became more complicated when the council decided not to file a formal police report at first and then produced documents attesting to Samreen’s marriage and her conversion to Islam.
Consequently, the family plans to appeal to the highest court in order to obtain justice for Samreen Aftab and her family. During this difficult time, the family and their legal counsel have asked the community for prayers and support.
