Clash expected on Armistice Day between Pro-Palestine supporters and far-right organisations.

Extremist groups and football hooligans are urging supporters to gather at the Cenotaph in central London on Armistice Day to oppose the pro-Palestine march.

There is proof from social media and private message boards that various extremist organisations have been pushing out their followers. Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League (EDL), called for people to gather at the Cenotaph “to show that British people are not happy” and insisted that the purpose was to show support for the armed forces in a video that he posted to his account on X, the former name of Twitter. Turning Point UK, an offshoot of a US organisation that promotes right-wing political ideas in educational settings, released a similar appeal.

A campaign group called Hope Not Hate, which aims to expose and counter far-right extremism, claims that other radical voices have also called for a presence on the streets of central London on Saturday. These include football hooligans who engage in private chat rooms and members of Patriotic Alternative, a British National Party (BNP) splinter group that has mobilised its members to harass refugees lodging in hotels.

There is little evidence that the demands of far-right figures will inspire a significant number of their supporters to go out and cause trouble. Despite requests that the march be banned, Sir Mark Rowley, the commissioner of police for the Metropolitan area, declined, citing a lack of proof of a substantial risk of major public disturbance. According to Nick Lowles, CEO of Hope Not Hate, despite the fact that some far-right individuals are trying to mobilise against the pro-Palestine demonstration in central London, their desire for confrontation may still pose a threat even in small numbers.
