Mrs. Karen Pence, the wife of former Vice President Mike Pence, talks about the art of service and the lessons she has learned as a politician’s wife serving her family and nation in an exclusive interview with Crosswalk Headlines.
According to Pence, serving others demonstrates our faith for all to see. She recounts her experiences as the First and Second Ladies of Indiana, recalling some of the wonderful things they accomplished while concentrating on her own difficulties and challenges.
Pence thinks that people have misconceptions about congressional spouses and that being a congressional spouse is actually a form of service. She urges readers to take action, volunteer when needed, and recognise the challenges she went through. She also talks about how much she loves bees and how, when called to serve, they taught her about God’s provision for her needs.
Pence describes in great detail the numerous adjustments she had to make as a political spouse and how she overcame them without becoming complacent throughout the book. The Bible verse, “I go before you and search out places for you to camp,” became her cherished verse.
Trusting God through all times is one of the book’s main themes. Pence thinks that sometimes past experiences—like her battle with infertility and her choice to have children at a young age—can serve as a foundation for trust. She exhorts readers to reflect on their own lives, especially the moments when they felt uncertain, fearful, or uneasy about stepping out in faith and relying on God to provide grace when needed.
