While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2023 Christmas plans have been kept secret, the former Suits star has previously opened up on what she loved most about spending the festive time with the royals
The burning question rumbles on over whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will spend this Christmas with the Royal Family.
But as speculation continues, a comment by the former Suits star has resurfaced as she sweetly explains the best part of spending the festive period with the family. Meghan spent her first Christmas with the Royals back in 2017 prior to her marriage to Harry.
While the situation wasn’t exactly protocol – traditionally, couples must be married before attending a Christmas in the royal residence – it’s said the late Queen overlooked the stipulation and allowed Meghan to join them.
Previously, Meghan has explained her initial thoughts on attending the festivities – and her favourite part of the occasion came as a shock to many. She said: “I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham, calling my mom, and she’s like ‘How’s it going?’ and I said ‘Oh my gosh it’s amazing’. It’s just like a big family like I always wanted. And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.”
And the big family vibe was something Harry gushed over shortly after also. Taking to BBC Radio 4, where he took over a special show in December 2017, the Duke of Sussex lovingly said: “The family loved having her there. There’s always that family part of Christmas [where] there’s always that work element there as well, and I think together we had an amazing time. We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running round with the kids. Christmas was fantastic.”
He even enjoyed trying to explain a number of traditions the family held, joking: “I think we’ve got one of the biggest families that I know of, and every family is complex as well.” But he gushed over his now-wife, saying she did an “amazing job” and described the royals as “the family I suppose that she’s never had”.
Harry also opened up on past Christmases with Meghan in his memoir Spare. He admitted to “roaring” at a royal-inspired gift he received from his wife during his first Christmas in California. Harry spoke about their cosy Christmas Eve, saying: “It was Christmas Eve. We FaceTimed with several friends, including a few in Britain. We watched Archie running around the tree. And we opened presents. Keeping to the Windsor family tradition.”
He then added more about his gift from Meghan: “One present was a little Christmas ornament of… the Queen! I roared. What the—? Meg had spotted it in a local store and thought I might like it.”
