In the 22nd match of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, Pakistani captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first against Afghanistan at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The stadium has a special place in cricket history because it hosted the historic 194 that Saeed Anwar scored against India in an ODI match in 1997. Pakistan, who is currently ranked fifth in the points standings, had a great opening to the competition, defeating both Sri Lanka and the Netherlands to set the record for the most successful chase in the competition’s history.
Following the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam declared that Mohammad Nawaz would not be playing because of a fever. Pitch No. 5, which was utilised for the India vs. Australia game, is the site of the match. Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmad are Afghanistan’s four spinners.
