Most Americans back Israel in the midst of the Hamas conflict, according to a poll

According to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll, most Americans back Israel in its continuing conflict with Hamas.

According to the survey, 16% of participants favoured Hamas, while 84% of participants supported Israel. With 58% of respondents favouring his work in Israel, President Joe Biden’s approval rating increased to 44%. The survey also showed a generational divide, with only 52% of the youngest voter group supporting Israel compared to 95% of seniors.

Support for Israel was also influenced by respondents’ age; 52% of those between the ages of 18 and 24 supported Israel more than Hamas, and 95% of those 65 and older supported Israel. Additionally, the survey revealed that 51% of participants thought the Hamas attack on Israel could be justified because of the Palestinians’ grievances, while 76% of respondents thought it could not.

Additionally, 58% of respondents thought that college students who accused Israel of being behind the violence were endorsing terrorism and acts of violence, while 42% disagreed. On the other hand, 55% of respondents believed that employers should hire students who support Hamas, while 45% disagreed.

Strong support for Israel and opposition to Hamas was found in the online survey, which was carried out in the United States on October 18–19, 2022, among all political parties. College-age respondents, however, were divided on the Israel-Hamas dispute; many did not think that Israel was behind the hospital bombing and that Hamas had committed atrocities.
