Chelsea holds Man City to an eight-goal thriller; Liverpool comes in second.

Leading Premier League teams Manchester City and Chelsea drew 4–4 at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer, a former City player, tying the score for the home team.

Chelsea engaged in an incredible struggle for the second time this week following their 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. With 28 points at the end of the weekend, City led the table by one point, while Arsenal and Liverpool both defeated Brentford and Burnley, respectively. Reaching 200 goals in English football and becoming the first player in Liverpool’s history to score in all six of their home league games in a season, Mohamed Salah set a new team record for goals scored.

Aston Villa’s 3-1 victory over Fulham tied a 40-year-old club record of 13 consecutive home league victories. Tomas Soucek of West Ham United scored a late header to give his team a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest and snap their losing streak. After Brighton & Hove Albion were held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United, their league winless streak grew to six games.

The team led by Mauricio Pochettino showed signs of life after a dismal start to the season. When Spanish defender Marc Cucurella pulled off Haaland’s shirt, City was awarded a penalty that was reviewed by VAR and converted coolly by the Norwegian in the 24th minute. Thiago Silva and former City player Raheem Sterling both scored headers to give Chelsea the lead after 37 minutes. Sterling’s goal came about as a result of Josko Gvardiol’s error.

Ollie Watkins, Antonee Robinson’s own goal, and goals from John McGinn and Ollie Watkins saw Aston Villa easily defeat Fulham. Under Unai Emery, Villa Park has developed into a stronghold, as his team is one of only two teams in the league to have won every game at home this year, along with Manchester City and Liverpool.
