Manchester United is having a lot of financial problems after losing in the Champions League. FC Copenhagen defeated 10-man United 4-3 in the 87th minute thanks to a goal from 17-year-old winger Roony Bardghji.
Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in the first 28 minutes of the game to give United a 2-0 lead. Following Marcus Rashford’s red card for a stamp in the 42nd minute, the visitors lost for the third time in four Group A games.
Lukas Lerager gave Copenhagen the equaliser in the 83rd minute, and Bardghji made history against United by becoming the youngest Champions League goal scorer when he drove a bouncing ball inside Andre Onana’s near post, completing one of the most memorable wins in the Danish team’s history. With two games remaining, United dropped to last place with three points, one fewer than Copenhagen and Galatasaray. With one game remaining, United knows that defeating Galatasaray will result in elimination from the Champions League.
The atmosphere before the game was incredible, as Copenhagen supporters unveiled a tifo featuring the phrase “Your Theatre of Nightmares” and an image of a Red Devil dozing in bed. It is unlikely that the match will get any more comfortable in Turkey after players from United’s previous trip there to play Galatasaray were met with “Welcome to Hell” banners at the airport.
Hojlund’s header from Scott McTominay gave United the lead in the third minute as they got off to a strong start against Copenhagen. A pivotal moment came when Marcus Rashford was sent off for attempting to block Copenhagen left back Elias Jelert’s shot. Elyounoussi scored the first goal for United in the 44th minute, and Diogo Gonçalves scored the second goal in the first 13 minutes of stoppage time in the first half after Harry Maguire handballed.
After United suffered its ninth loss in 17 games across all competitions, manager Erik ten Hag is currently under pressure.
