Restrictions on dependent numbers may be taken into consideration in order to reduce immigration, according to UK Cabinet Minister Steve Barclay.
Home Secretary James Cleverly is thinking about imposing these limitations, and Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick suggests that employees only be allowed to bring one relative or no dependents at all.
Barclay thinks the government should take additional action and is in favour of a migration cap. Zimbabwe, India, and Nigeria produce the majority of the foreign carers employed in the UK. Cabinet division resulted from net migration hitting a record 745,000 in 2022. Jenrick, who was formerly thought to be close to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, voiced his displeasure with the government for not implementing his recommendations to lower overall migration. The prime minister allegedly broke a promise to enact measures like raising the minimum wage or capping work visas, according to home secretary Suella Braverman, who was fired.
