When the Oscar nominations are revealed in January, Netflix’s biographical film on Bayard Rustin—which was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama—is probably going to be a contender for best actor.
As the mastermind of the 1963 March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, Rustin played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement. Rustin was an outspoken gay man, but his speech and name have never been documented because of his controversial position at the time. Colman Domingo stars in the new film, which is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama. Colman Domingo is expected to be considered for best actor when the Oscar nominations are revealed.
Due to recent strikes in Hollywood, which have caused a backlog of actor promotional work, the Rustin press launch is occurring after the movie’s release. Domingo thinks that more people should see the movie and that Rustin’s tale should be made public. There are disagreements regarding the movie itself, but everyone agrees that Domingo gives an incredible performance in the lead role.
Even though there are a lot of actors in the field, including Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cillian Murphy, and Paul Giamatti, Domingo is a serious candidate for best actor at the Oscars. In order for him and the other creators to succeed, he believes that the movie will highlight their work and increase public awareness of Rustin.
