Newcastle United defeated Manchester United for the second time at Old Trafford.

After goals from Miguel Almiron and Lewis Hall, as well as a solo effort from Joe Willock, Newcastle won their largest away game against their hosts in ninety-three years.

The game was played at Stamford Bridge, where Newcastle and Chelsea, two other Premier League teams, will meet. For the first time since the 1962–1963 campaign, Manchester United and Ten Hag have dropped eight of their first fifteen games.

After being humiliated by Manchester City at home by three goals once more, the home team’s vulnerabilities were revealed. After failing to follow Almiron’s right-wing break for the first goal, Diogo Dalot was replaced at halftime, and Casemiro, the returning Brazilian midfielder, did not play again in the second half. Hall scored the first goal of the match with a first-time volley that met Harry Maguire’s headed clearance. Willock, on the other hand, replicated Hall’s effort by finding the bottom corner after being given free reign to run 30 yards unopposed before shooting after Sofyan Amrabat lost possession on the halfway line.

Manchester United’s form has drastically declined since they defeated Newcastle at Wembley in February, snapping a nearly six-year trophy drought. During the course of three transfer windows, Ten Hag has spent more than £350 million; five of his acquisitions have started the game, and six have completed it. Although Andre Onana, the goalkeeper, may not have been at fault for any of the three Newcastle goals, none really stood out.

Newcastle’s start to the match could not have been worse, with five of their senior players sidelined by injuries and Sandro Tonali ruled out for ten months due to a gambling ban. In the space of just two minutes, Matt Targett suffered a serious hamstring injury, which made manager Howe fear he would be without Targett’s services for some time.

Rather, Almiron broke the tie by latching onto a cross-field pass from Tino Livramento, which put Newcastle on the path to an unforgettable and richly deserved win. Howe and his team honoured the 9,000-person travelling fan base at the conclusion, whose support was unwavering.
