Rapper and hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is the target of a lawsuit brought by R&B singer Cassandra Ventura, who claims to have been sexually enslaved, sexually abused repeatedly, and even raped.
Under the stage name Cassie, Ventura claims Combs made her perform sex acts with male prostitutes he hired while he observed and recorded the interactions for his own amusement. Throughout their ten-year romantic and professional relationship, Ventura was allegedly routinely beaten by Combs, who also used intimidation and alcohol and drug abuse to maintain control over her. When Ventura brought up the subject of breaking up with Combs in 2018, he allegedly sexually assaulted her.
Attorney Ben Brafman for Combs refutes the allegations, claiming Ventura only filed the lawsuit as a last resort after failing to get $30 million from Combs by threatening to publish a book that would be detrimental to their relationship. Combs, the creator of Bad Boy Records, is a highly successful performer in his own right and one of the most significant hip-hop executives and producers. In 2017, Forbes magazine listed him as the highest-paid musician in the world, with an estimated yearly salary of $130 million.
In her lawsuit, she seeks compensation for the ten years of her life that Combs deprived her of through sexual slavery, drug abuse, physical and psychological abuse, and threats of violence. It lists infractions of federal, New York, and California legislation pertaining to human and sex trafficking.
