The wildest match of the year: Nine-Man Spurs implode against Chelsea.

In a thrilling game at home, Tottenham’s perfect Premier League record came to an end. James Maddison’s through ball to Dejan Kulusevski gave the home team the lead after he deflected off Levi Colwill and caught Robert Sánchez off guard.

In the first half of the match, there were five VAR calls, with Son Heung-min and Destiny Udogie being judged offside. Chelsea had two chances to score, but goals from Moises Caicedo and the England international were disqualified. Cristian Romero was given a straight red card for his dangerous challenge on Enzo Fernandez, as demanded by VAR. Despite Ange Postecoglou’s team suffering more from injuries, Cole Palmer scored the equaliser from the penalty spot. After he avoided receiving a red card for elbowing Udogie during the 12-minute added time, Reece James rose to prominence.

Following the interval, Chelsea controlled the play but was unable to score another goal. Guglielmo Vicario produced a number of diving saves to keep out the visiting stars, but Nicolas Jackson was saved by VAR after a late run by Sterling. Son saw that Eric Dier had missed an open net, and Son had saved an attempt. Jackson completed his hat-trick with two late goals, and Chelsea managed to hang on for the three points. Tottenham missed the chance to pass Manchester City after their first loss of the season, and the Blues are now tenth in the standings.
