Given that both Newcastle and Manchester City suffered 3-0 home losses, it is imperative that Erik ten Hag’s position at Manchester United be made clear as soon as possible.
The manager is already under pressure. Although Ten Hag acknowledged that United was “in a bad place,” he is “a fighter.” Club representatives have made an effort to downplay rumours regarding his future. A string of “must-win” games awaits United, including a trip to FC Copenhagen in the Champions League and a match at Fulham. United would be under tremendous pressure to make a managerial change if those games were losing ones.
While they “explore strategic alternatives,” the Glazer family has been thinking about selling the team. The agreement has not yet been finalised, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group hopes to acquire a 25% share in United. Ratcliffe wants to take over as United’s head of football operations and have a significant influence over any choice regarding Ten Hag’s successor.
Ratcliffe’s in-depth analysis of Old Trafford’s operations and a more transparent ownership structure would be advantageous to United.
