Marcus Smith is replaced by Freddie Steward, one of three changes made by England for the semi-finals.

In England’s Rugby World Cup semi-final matchup against South Africa, Freddie Steward will take Ellis Genge’s place at loosehead prop, and George Martin will take Ollie Chessum’s spot in the second row.

Two changes have been made in the pack by head coach Steve Borthwick. The steward has rejoined the team after being substituted out owing to a head injury evaluation.

After winning the encounter against Fiji in the quarterfinals, England captain Owen Farrell was chosen man of the match, meaning he was kept at fly-half. Under the direction of director of rugby Rassie Erasmus and head coach Jacques Nienaber, South Africa has only been unaltered in the 64 Tests. In the World Cup final, South Africa defeated England 32–12, with eight players starting. Nienaber anticipates a fierce contest from Borthwick’s squad, the only unbeaten side in the competition.
